Having the right personality and academic results is essential for moving to a US college. But many universities also use the SAT Reasoning and/or ACT test as a key part of their entrance criteria.

These are four-hour exams of multiple choice questions and one essay. All universities accept either exam - but students who are able to take both can submit the one with the best score.

SAT – 10 Short Sections

3 Reading Comprehension (200 – 800 points)

3 Math (200 – 800 points)

3 Writing: 2 grammar, 1 essay (200 – 800 points)

1 experimental (not scored)

Competitive universities want 700+ points per section

ACT – 5 Long Sections

Grammar (0-36 points)

Math (0–36 points)

Reading (0–36 points)

Science (0-36 points)

Essay available on some test dates

Competitive universities want 32+ points per section

Both tests examine roughly the same criteria, but the style of questions is different. Students can study for both with official books, or one of the available preparation courses.
